An wide-armed welcome to Sae-jung Kim, a composer, choreographer and director, awarded the prize for her contribution in arts and culture by the French Government in 2008! An impromptu alliance between musicians and performers helps to enhance the creativity and imagination of the performance and to pique the curiosity of the audience. A total art form that converges on music, dance and art. |
| A variety of situations that may occur in real time is portrayed in <Échos>. Human sentiments of happiness, anger, love and pleasure in real life are contorted like a ball of yarn either consciously or unconsciously to the point where they converge with one other. In terms of the flow of sentiment, time is not cut up into yesterday and today. Instead, it is but a unit in the long continuation of time that repeats itself over and over. The unfettered honest expressions and actions on stage remind adults of their childhood and the violence of modern society that has robbed them of their purity. Memories of time past along with desires filled with illusions bind with flying imagination to create a humorous stage through music, dance and the arts. The informal choreography that allows for an impromptu performance to music in combination with the ensemble of impromptu music played to the movements of the performers is a testament to the highly trained and synchronized movements of the performers. Such an impromptu alliance between musicians and performers helps to enhance the creativity and imagination of the performance and to titillate the curiosity of the audience. The restrained music of <Échos> inspired by the culture and arts of both the East and the West lead the audience on a mystical journey of indescribable subtle appeal. Seven pieces of sculpture by the world-renowned set designer, artist and sculptor, Jan Voss, are placed on stage to add to the sensual and symbolic nature of the performance. The fusion of music, dance and art creates a perfect harmony as a total art. Director, Sae-Jung Kim’s concept of movement woven by music and dance or dance and art adds new dimension and potential to the performance arts. The costumes designed by the world-famous designer, HANEZA, only add to the uniqueness of this piece. |

- Sae-Jung Kim – composer, pianist, percussionist, choreographer
Sae-Jung Kim has studied piano since the age of five. She won the grand prize at the Korea Music Concours at age eleven. At her graduation from Seoul National University, she was awarded the “Korea’s New Artist” prize. She has since performed with the Seoul Municipal Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra on numerous occasions and has long been the subject of great interest in the media. In order to enlarge her world of music and to gain recognition on the international stage, she moved to Europe for further studies. She graduated from the Royal Music Academy in Brussels as a recipient of a government scholarship from the government of Belgium. She has also been invited to renowned music festivals in Europe. Critics have acknowledged her for her exceptional musicality and range of repertoire from classical to modern music in solo, chamber and orchestral performances. Given her additional activities in composing, choreography and directorship, her interests have become more concrete with the creation of company ACRONOTE in 2004. In 2006, Kim received a doctorate degree in modern music from the Sorbonne in Paris. She has released albums of piano pieces by Chopin and Ravel, chamber music pieces by Guillaume Lekeu and her own compositions. The French Government recognized Kim for her contributions to the arts and culture in 2008. |

- company ACRONOTE
Pianist, composer, stage director and choreographer, Sae-Jung Kim, set up the company ACRONOTE in 2004 to create performances combining dance, modern circus and music aimed at narrowing the gap between artists and the general public. The company creates unique pieces that place importance on the interaction between acrobats, performers and musicians on stage. The performers come up with original choreography following composing and taking into account various cultural backgrounds, interpretations of the musical piece and the ambitions of the actual performance. The performance projects are named after types of classical music concerts such as Solo, Duo, Trio and Quartet. The use of such a format allows creativity and interpretation a freer rein.

Set Design :
- Jan Voss
After studying at the art school in München, Jan Voss settled in Paris in1963 and has been living and working there alone ever since. He has also worked with some groups focusing on narrative structure. His early works involve the use of fabric of animals or characters arranged with a narrative to express the reality of the everyday world. Later on, his style developed into one that placed emphasis on the layout using lines. As a whole, his works are solid and powerful in a compressed space. Poetry and music have had both a direct and indirect effect on Jan Voss. He has collaborated with artists such as the poet, Jean-Christophe Bailly, to publish a book of poetry with his own prints and illustrations. In 2006, Voss was invited to hold an exhibition at the Heyri Pan Festival and last year he was responsible for the stage design of <Solo and Duet Ι> at Sidance 2008.
