Winner of Best Choreography at the 'Critics' Choice Young Choreographer Award 2008! The passionate energy of four couples dealing with 'encounter' by the LDP. |
Premiere: June 18, 2008 KEPCO Art Center - Best Choreographer selected by critics at the11th Young Dancers Selection
Synopsis: Encounters don't just happen by accident. They are made possible because of a force, like gravity, that brings two people together at one place and time. We all live under this law of attraction.
Intention: The focal point of this piece is the natural and seemingly random succession of incidents and encounters that occur throughout our lives on a daily basis and how such ordinary encounters can be interpreted.
Plan: The theme of encounter is treated as the co-existence of people. A continuous motion of contact takes place, while sounds of things or of the body are depicted on stage. Changes in the background are attempted by the almost hallucination-like images of space. The flow of energy that draws one into a state of total absorption is swallowed by space. The end is signaled by the omnibus-style portrayal of images from the first scene that hints at a new beginning.
|
The sound of a heart beating overwhelms the first scene. Lights from the benches on the playing field enhance the tension of the situation. Overall, everyday occurrences in our lives are treated like incidents that take place on the playing field.
Our lives that are sometimes the subject of too much attention are handled in a tenth of a second shot. Maximizing the movements and the tension of producing such movements are expressed through the dancer whose hope for the future is to simply dance.
In the final scene, a review of the first scene takes place, which is intended to suggest the last minutes of life when an individual looks back over his life in the final hour.

Review
The Birth of the second No Comment, Changho Shin's Platform Changho Shin's No Comment that premiered in 2007 is representative of the characteristics of the LDP Company. No Comment shows a sophistication that is not over the top, full of dynamism and a work that is illustrative of the commercial acumen of the choreographer who has attempted close communication with the audience. Another masterpiece has been born at this regular performance. His latest Platform is more than likely to meet the expectations of the audience who are waiting for the second No Comment.
