Premiere of a work by the renowned Spanish playwright, Juan Mayorga! A black comedy and parody of modern European society by the turtle raised by the author of the 'Origin of Species', Charles Darwin, which has evolved into a human being. |
| A mysterious old woman comes to a house where a famous scholar lives. The old woman says that she is the turtle 'Harriet' which Darwin came with from Galapagos and she can tell the new history what she had seen during the late of 19 century. Instead, she asks him to help her to go back to Galapagos. As she starts to tell the story by using great wit and humor, amazing stories are revealed which people never have seen in history books. But the people who want to use Harriet as the way of filling their hope eventually lead to a catastrophe and nobody gains what they want. |
| La Tortuga De Darwin offers us time and space to think about where and how we live in the tiring 21st century. Harriet who has evolved from a turtle through the last two centuries is an ideal that we can only see in theater but it also can be a reality. examines the conflict communications between human's memory and record, reality and ideal, history and artificial culture and science and religion. It also shows the way of living in the 21st century. |

The Seoul Metropolitan Theater was established in 1997, amid many high expectations from the world of drama and culture in Korea. Under the auspices of the Sejong Arts Hall, the company seeks to provide all the citizens of Seoul unique opportunities to enjoy quality drama pieces. Unlike other national companies, each individual piece is independently produced. Thus far, it has successfully managed to provide quality performance arts under the principles of ‘artistry, the public nature of drama and popular appeal’. The Seoul Metropolitan Theater will continue to provide a high-quality repertoire through numerous attempts and approaches as a purely dramatic production company representing Seoul.
